New Traditional Bakery: Guava Berry........yummy!
By Luis on 1/29/2008 at 5:25 PM
A new joint opened not too long ago on Memorial Ave., it is a traditional Latin Bakery [ ...More ] called Guava Berry. Since I discovered it I have found myself returning again and again. It's super YUMMY you must visit!
Being originally from Puerto Rico myself the smell when you walk into this place made me think of home. They have a variety of pastries, traditional candies , cakes, breads and sandwiches. They open from 7 am for breakfast, (I would recommend stopping in for a cup of their coffee and guava filled pastry) and they also offer plated lunch like rice and your choice of meat. By the way, I had their cuban and it was better than the silver ring. ('NO, WAY!'.........."YES WAY!" Shhhhh, don't tell them.) It is made with real marinated pulled pork and pressed really crisp and thin, the old fashion way. YUMMY!
Here is a link to there website www.guavaberrybakery.com. They have been open for about a month now and have a lovely atmosphere, doesn't look like much from outside, but very nice when you walk in. Great location too on Memorial just before Tapatio's. Anyway I would recommend checking it out. Obviously I am a little over excited about it and maybe a little bias considering I am from PR. Good, Honest Mechanics
By Lorrie on 2/21/2008 at 4:21 PM
Steve at Pro Care put new tires on my car today. I can't describe how nice it is to have an honest, reputable mechanic so close by. I highly recommend Pro Care.
Aye chihuahua !! Es muy bueno !!
LOVE IT! It's just outside Cypress Gardens and it was an unexpected treat. [ ...More ] We popped in just to grab something quick thinking it was like every other mom n' pop Mexican joint, and boy was I wrong!
All the dishes are fresh and cooked to order. I had the flautas. Sometimes, at other places, they can be over-fried and greasy, but not here. They were light and crispy and flavorful! It came with a fresh pico de gallo (tomato relish) with lots of cilantro, sour cream and TONS of fresh guacamole. Again, at most places you get a teasponn of guac, but not here... it was nearly 1/2 cup!
What's REALLY cool is the hot sauce bar. Admittedly, the hottest pepper sauce I can stand is Tabasco. I prefer the sauces with more flavors (mango, garlic, etc.) and not just the heat. Hubby - he's a HOT guy. He's ordered "nuclear" wings and sauces at other places and they were tepid. Tijuana Flats sauce bar has small, paper cups so you can try one - or all of them. The milder ones were great - and the hotter ones, according to hubby, were awesome too.
Winter Haven is a bit of a drive for us - especially w/ gas prices like they are - but well worth the trip. The atmosphere is fun and casual w/ outdoor dining by a fountain available. The manager told me of their plans to open two in Lakeland in the coming months so be sure to check them up.
I give them two snaps up in a zee-formation. [ ...Less ]
